Question:
What does a sysadmin do?Answer:
The job of a systems admin is never ending. At Linux Tech Networks, we do the following (depending upon payment and subscription plans):
- Check Logs
We check all of your logs on a repeated basis (every 5 minutes). Any abnormalities are sent to us and we go through those. - Compromisation checks
All servers are checked for compromise on a regular basis, depending upon the plan purchased - Monitor and Recovery (**)
Providing you supply us with either a remote reboot login, or a way to contact your DC, we will monitor your server, and recover from failures, depending upon the plan selected. - System updates
These are key to any server. While you need to ask us to update any non standard packages (the only ones we update automatically are apache and kernel updates), we keep a very close eye on your system software and make recommendations based on those. - Process/Server Overload notification and recovery(*)
We keep a close eye on your processes and connections, recovering them if they are out of set boundaries.
*In order for this package to apply, you must have subscribed to the Advanced admin plan, which covers process, memory and load monitoring
**In order for this package to apply, you must have subscribed to our Full administration plan which covers port monitoring.
